This map illustrates the OsmAnd routing concept. The route starts in the Start Area Cluster (221558), moves to the nearest Border Point, and continues through precomputed Shortcuts across intermediate clusters. It then enters the Finish Area Cluster (221536) via another border point and finishes using local roads. This method speeds up routing by combining local search with efficient inter-cluster shortcuts.
The 386 solves this by repurposing RPT (Repeat). Normally, RPT implements loops -- it re-executes a micro-instruction while decrementing a counter, as we saw in the multiplication post. But when a protection test is in flight, the hardware suppresses RPT's counter-decrement and turns it into a pure stall: the sequencer freezes until the PLA result arrives.

But now Microsoft is distracted by AI — it's been pushing Copilot and AI features for years, instead of improving the Windows experience with more useful upgrades. Recent talk of agentic AI capabilities, which would let Copilot handle tasks for you automatically, also sparked plenty of criticism from Windows users. And with all of the focus on AI, Microsoft has also released some disastrous Windows updates over the last year, which have bricked OS installations. So, Apple, why not make a direct play for Windows users?
